I'm thinking Tetra is not suitable for 'at incident' due to the need for intrinsically safe models which are ferociously expensive

Some examples;

"Much consideration has been given to the subject of the distribution of Tetra radio terminals and hand portables.  It has been decided that all appliances which may transport personnel to incidents, must be fitted with a Tetra radio.

The results of a Fleet Survey have been used to define a baseline number of appliances of each type for which tetra terminals will be funded, this baseline is linked to the Area Risk Categorisation process for each station.

After investigation, consultation and consideration, it has been determined that Tetra as a technology is not suitable for use for “At Incident” hand portable communications. It has been identified that Tetra is not in use for this purpose in the vast majority of European brigades. It has however been identified that there are a number of issues in some brigades with the current hand portable technologies in use. As such the Ctrí project has been tasked with identifying these issues and proposing a recommendation for their resolution."

The Fire Service has been moving to Tetra more times than I've had hot dinners...

Albeit a complex task in creating the fleet-map etc, how did NAS manage to migrate before the FS?

Will they continue to use analogue handsets while "at incident" I wonder?

Amateur Radio in Ireland / Galway City Digital Gateway - DMR, Fusion & D-Star
« Last post by EI5DD on November 09, 2017, 15:54:40 PM »
The Galway Digital Gateway is due to go on air shortly on 144.850MHz. The Modes in operation will be DMR, Yaesu Fusion and D-Star. This is primarily for City wide coverage but should actually achieve coverage around a 25 mile radius from the City Centre.

The Callsign in EI2GCD.

Frequencies / Re: Strange Telemetry 158.7625 MHz

There is this transmission on the same frequency 158.7625MHz NFM which I recorded in the Cork area (audio below) -  transmits in a short burst several times an hour (also more than one transmitter appears to be involved as I can also often hear the same type of signal with a weaker transmission just after the stronger transmission):

(squelch was off so noise either side of transmission)

Is this the same thing as being heard in Dublin?

I'm sure they still have air-band receive and possibly a common tetra talk-group with customs & Gardai in case it hits the fan.

Interesting one about Zello.  I use the free version with friends who were once on CB.  Works great, especially if you have handsets like these...

Thanks for heads up. Some airfields using the Zello App, there are two versions one for clapped out CB operators and one for the business class. Can be locked down for Group use works off any smart phone.
