let your wife / girlfriend hold a section of the "wet string"
then let her hold the RG213
after this she "understands" the benefits

Hi again, i'm having some difficulty with the EIDW feed and need some antenna advice :D

At the moment i'm using a basic "no vertical element type" Discone.

Im 10 or 11 miles straight line from the airport just at J12 on the M50, Knocklyon. About 95m asl according to Google earth.

The Scanner is a UBC780XLT fed directly via RG213 from the Discone on the roof / 5ft above chimney 2 storie house.

Anyway the problem is mainly 121.100 approach, planes in the air no prob, ATC is very weak / with static type noise.

First plan is to build a J-pole, Copper pipe and joints bought. If that is no better Im looking at a D-777 antenna in the uk.

Any thoughts as in do I need these things called "chokes / balluns / filters"?

any thoughts on the D-777?

Any advise on the J-pole build?

Any other comments on the feed in general?  http://www.liveatc.net/search/?icao=eidw

Thanks,
Pat.

You don't really need chokes or balun for a dedicated vhf antenna. Mainly used on HF if your transmitting and want to get the correct match between transmitter and cable Prob get a cheap dedicated air band antenna from moonraker uk. ;)
