IRTS to open membership to CB operators
« on: April 01, 2010, 00:01:12 AM »
The Irish Radio Transmitters Society announced that it is to accept Citizen Band operators as members of the Society.

A spokesman for the Irish Radio Transmitters Society said that the move has been discussed over several months and culminated in a vote at the last committee meeting being carried by a narrow majority. He went on to say that new members are always needed in the Society and the committee has looked at various ways to increase a falling membership. It was felt that there is a large section of the radio community in Ireland that up until now has had no national representation and that Citizens Band radio is as important as Amateur Radio and has a large active operator base.

The Irish Radio Transmitters Society proposes to hold contests for the Citizen Band members along the lines of the Spring and Autumn 2 meter contests and to offer a QSL service with special QSL cards which is considered to be a first among Amateur Radio associations.

It is understood that Citizen Band members will not initially have full voting rights at the Irish Radio Transmitters Society AGM but rather they will have voting rights pertaining to the Citizens Band section of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society although this my change in the future. Amateur Radio members will continue to have full voting rights but now including the Citizens Band section of the Society.

A representative will be sought for immediate appointment to the Irish Radio Transmitters Society committee at the upcomming special AGM and it is hoped that all Citizens Band operators will apply for membership of the Society.

The committee spokesman concluded that for too long in Ireland, Citizen Band operators had been excluded from membership of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society unless they wished to join as Short Wave Listeners. Citizen Band operators form an important section of the radio community in Ireland and we in the Irish Radio Transmitters Society look forward to welcoming them into the ranks of the national organisation.

This gives me an itch
It reminds me of our local golf club, all high and mighty yuppies, they only decided to let in the pitch and putters and the rif raf when they ran low in funds and needed to purchase a few extra acers

Sure THERE is nothing stopping anyone from joining the IRTS.

Whether you have a radio or not, HAM, SWL & CB are just titles.

Although a CB contest would be fun.

Carlsberg don\'t run I.T departments, but if they did, they\'d probably be more fun.
